Grant Beach Neighborhood Twice Annual Neighborhood Clean-Ups
For well over 10 years Grant Beach Neighborhood Association (GBNA) has been sponsoring two neighborhood clean-ups per year, one in the spring and one in the fall.
The purpose of this project is to offer residents the opportunity to get rid of their unwanted household items, appliances , building materials, yard waste and tires, which they may not be financially able to do otherwise. For the past several years we have held the clean-ups on the Central Assembly parking lot located on Boonville between Lynn and Calhoun.
This event has grown over the years and we are proud to say that the number of volunteers has grown as well. As many as 50 people help throughout the clean-up, loading dumpsters, providing curbside pick-ups, assisting with surveys, taking phone calls, and traffic control. Without them, this opportunity would not exist.
Funding for these clean-ups has come from a variety of sources. In the beginning they were sponsored by Caring Communities mini grants and donations from people using the service. Given the success of this project, not only in Grant Beach but in other neighborhoods as well, the City of Springfield has provided funding for the past several years. Due to City budget cuts this line item had to be deleted from the city budget, so at this time GBNA is using Neighborhood Beautification (Railroad) money to finance the clean-ups. Hopefully, as City funding becomes more stable this line item will be reinstated. Information about the upcoming spring clean-up is posted below.
At each clean-up we usually fill AT LEAST ten (10) forty yard dumpsters with unwanted household items, etc, at least one (1) dumpster of yard waste and recycle three (3) trailer loads of metal.

If you have any questions, would like to volunteer to help or need curbside pick-up, please call Pauletta Dunn at 831-2895.
NOTE: Due to the price of gasoline, we urge residents requesting curbside pick-up to make a donation to offset the cost of our volunteers' gas expenses.
