Geese Center Piece for you Thanksgiving Table

Decorate your table with some funny geese by adding clove eyes to crookneck squash. This project is simple, but requires an adult's help with the sharp knife! Parental supervision is recommended. This project is EASY to do.

What You Need

bulletCrookneck squash (find some with part of the stems attached-the stems form the beaks)
bulletWhole cloves
bulletFall leaves
bulletWaxed paper and cardboard for the display base
bulletGlue or tape
bulletSharp knife
bulletCutting board
bulletIce pick or awl

How To Make It- Making your Geese

Head

Wash any dirt off the squash and dry it with a paper towel. Ask an adult to help cut the stem of the squash at an angle to make it look like a beak.

Use an ice pick or awl to make small holes in each goose's "face." Insert a whole clove into each hole to make the eyes.

Body

Slice off the large rounded end of the squash so that it will stand upright without tipping over.

Display

Make several geese to keep each other company
Cover the cardboard with the waxed paper, use glue or tape to attach it.
Place your geese on the base, then surround them with fall leaves.

You're Done!

Be sure to keep your geese on their base to protect your tables, moisture from them could ruin wooden surfaces.

The Grant Beach Neighborhood Betterment Association is a group of citizens working together to maintain and improve the quality of living in our area. We meet monthly on a regular basis to address neighborhood concerns, and encourage residents to start smaller neighborhood watch groups in their block. We believe that people should actively participate as citizens in a democracy and as neighbors in in a community. We are a group of citizens interested in working together to maintain and improve the living quality of our neighborhood, motivate the city to address our concerns, be a spawning ground for neighborhood watch programs and build a sense of community among us. Working together, there is little that cannot be done, working apart there is little that can be done.

Mission Statement: "Improving the quality of life in our neighborhood"

This website is simply a tool we use to help keep our neighbors connected to each other, to their neighborhood and to their City of Springfield, Missouri. Please consider attending the monthly meeting. Potluck Dinner for the whole family and Free child care for the meeting
